Tom Cruise won the Best Performance in a Movie award for his role in Top Gun: Maverick at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards. In his acceptance speech, Cruise expressed his gratitude to the fans and promised to keep entertaining them. He also teased his upcoming film, Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One, which will be released on July 12th.

The awards show had to switch to pre-taped speeches due to Drew Barrymore backing out of hosting the show in solidarity with the ongoing Hollywood writers' strike. Top Gun: Maverick had the most nominations for movies leading up to the event.
