Scientists may have finally discovered the source of fast radio bursts (FRBs), which have long been a topic of intrigue in astronomy due to their unusual nature and potential to indicate alien contact. An international team analysed the FRB called “20190520B,” and concluded that it may come from a binary system on the outskirts of a metal-poor dwarf galaxy nearly 3 billion light-years away.
However, the signals' origins remain uncertain. The FRB reportedly comes from a “compact object” that is next to a massive star with strong stellar winds, leading researchers to suggest that it could be either a black hole or magnetised neutron star.
