Burger King has launched a Spider Man-themed Whopper burger in the US to coincide with the upcoming release of 'Spider-Man Across the Spider-Verse' movie. The burger features a red bun with black sesame seeds. However, some of Burger King's franchisees are struggling financially, with some locations going bust and Meridian Restaurants Unlimited filing for bankruptcy due to debt. Burger King has announced plans to shut down up to 400 underperforming locations by the end of the year.
Despite this, parent company Restaurant Brands International has exceeded expectations in its Q1 earnings call, with Burger King itself experiencing 12% more sales per store compared to last year. However, it struggled to recover from the pandemic and recruited Tom Curtis to turn around its US business.
